It is a story about the start of the Japanese custom of playing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Christmas.

第一次世界大戦中、日本とドイツは敵対国として中国で戦っておりました。その中国で日本軍の俘虜（捕虜）となったドイツ人たちは日本につれてこられ、 あちこちの収容所に入れられました。 そのうちの一つが徳島県鳴門市板東にありました。 この物語はその板東で最初に第九が演奏された史実に基づいて作られました。 ここで使われている絵画のほとんどは、この収容所のあった板東小学校の子どもたちが描いたもので、 残りの数点はカナダ人画家ネイサン・バートレイが描いたものです。 このホームページは、１９９５年のクリスマス・イブに世界中の子どもたちへの クリスマス・プレゼントとして発表されたものです。

The story is written for children. Most of the pictures were drawn by children from the Bando Elementary School in Bando, Japan. A few are by Nathan Bartley, a Canadian artist. This story was put on the Internet on Christmas Eve, 1995. It is a Christmas present to the children of the world.
